Chelsea are feeling pretty good about themselves after beating Wolves and rising to third place in a tight Premier League table.

But we shouldn’t so quickly forget the frustration of drawing with Qarabag earlier in the week or some of the other disappointing results of the season so far. If we want to do better than last year, we need to find another gear.

The best way to do that is to get our talisman and key player, the magical Cole Palmer back. The Evening Standard have a report today on the attacker and when he might return from a persistent groin problem that’s seen him shut down for more than two months.

They say that the game against Barcelona later this month remains the dream return date, giving Palmer the rest of this international break, plus potentially a short cameo off the bench against Burnley next weekend to try and get him up to speed.

A massive clash against Arsenal follows the Barcelona game. There’s no point resting Palmer for two months then rushing him back for two games – but that week certainly looks like one that could define the season. Fingers crossed he’s looking fresh and fit in training next week – then we can start to believe.

In other news…

With Palmer returning, we don’t expect Chelsea to do much business in January. One move being suggested is for Endrick, the Brazilian wonderkid who once cost £50m. We have major doubts he’ll be coming to Chelsea, however.

Who needs Endrick when you’ve got Shim Mheuka, anyway? The youngster is tearing it up for England’s Under 19s right now, and is surely pressing for a senior loan sooner rather than later. We can’t wait to see how he gets on after taking a step up.
