Cole Palmer is close to making a return to team training, but Chelsea don’t want to rush him back according to reports.

Palmer has been plagued by a groin issue which caused him problems at the Club World Cup, and he’s been limited to just four appearances in all competitions.

Maresca confirmed Palmer would miss another six weeks before the 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest last month.

Cole Palmer close to training return

If all goes to plan that time frame puts the Englishman in the picture to return for big games against Barcelona and Arsenal at the end of the month.

Surprisingly the Blues haven’t actually won any of the games Palmer has featured in this season, but they are without doubt a better side with him in it.

It’s been reported Chelsea are taking a long term view with Palmer, and want him to be fit for the long run not just a few games.

Mail Sport have provided an update on the 23-year-old and they’ve reported he’s fairly close to making a return to team training.

The report adds the target is the Barcelona game, and the attacker would love to play in a such a match, but Chelsea don’t want to rush him back.

Chelsea injury list shortening

Despite Palmer still being out, Chelsea’s injury list is shortening, and the Blues are now down to four first team injuries.
