A former Premier League manager has picked a rather bizarre position for Cole Palmer to come and play in for England.

We are approaching the next World Cup at the end of the current season, and there is already a lot of excitement building towards it.

Palmer is of course currently out injured but he will be hoping that he can have a good second half to this season in order to get back in the thinking of England boss Thomas Tuchel and he is able to nail fown a regular starting spot for his England side at the World Cup in the summer.

That England squad has a lot of talent, and there will be a lot of competition for places. Some top players will not even be making the squad. Palmer will be working hard to make sure he is in there and if all things are well injury wise, he will be there for sure.

Palmer to play on the left?

Former Premier League manager Alan Pardew says he would play Palmer on the left wing!?

Speaking on talkSPORT this week, the ex-Newcastle United boss said: “My midfield three for the World Cup, at the moment, would be [Declan] Rice, [Jude] Bellingham, [Morgan] Rogers… and then Palmer playing the left side when he hopefully comes back and he’s fresh and he’s really looking good to come and play the left side of the pitch and come in as a No.10 as well.”

Bizarre call

Out wide on the left is one of the last positions that anyone should be picking Cole Palmer in! He’s much better as a 10, then a right winger, then a false 9 than he is out wide on the left.

He’s not a classic style winger, he likes to come inside a lot and create. He’s not going to beat a man and head to the by-line to make a cross. He works by cutting in on his strong foot, his right, not his left. So no Pards, we don’t want to see Palmer out on the left!
