Manchester United are prepared to return to the negotiating table for Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher.
After accepting defeat in their pursuit of Carlos Baleba, United tried to sign Gallagher during the final days of the summer transfer window.
However, Atletico rejected their loan proposal as they were only open to a permanent sale.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Amorim is eager to add a midfielder to his ranks in January.
Casemiro has become an undisputed starter alongside captain Bruno Fernandes in the middle of the park. Still, the 33-year-old should not be expected to start every game, owing to his physical decline.
Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo doesn’t appear to be part of the United head coach’s plans, having yet to start a league game this term. Amorim reportedly wanted to sign Gallagher to replace the Englishman, who requested to depart his boyhood club temporarily in the summer.
According to Fichajes, United are planning an offensive for Gallagher heading into the winter transfer window.
The Spanish outlet claim United are considering submitting an offer of around €60 million to convince Atletico.
Gallagher is an old-school number eight, known for his physicality, tireless running and determination to get into the penalty area. United reportedly believe the England international is capable of adding dynamism to their midfield.
Gallagher’s work ethic, in particular, attracted Diego Simeone’s interest who secured his services from Chelsea in 2024.
However, in the Spanish capital, the Englishman has fallen down the pecking order, and hasn’t started a game for Los Rojiblancos since September.
It is understood the 25-year-old is concerned about his gametime, with the World Cup 2026 on the horizon. As such, United’s determination could convince Gallagher to jump ship mid-season.
