According to Meu Timao, the club’s Deliberative Council has paused inquiries into alleged misuse of its corporate card by ex-presidents Andrés Sanchez and Duilio Monteiro Alves. The step, ordered by council president Romeu Tuma Júnior, aims to protect CJ and CE members from disobedience charges, as Andrés faces court restrictions and MP-SP has sought similar measures against Duilio.
There is concern that continuing without hearing the ex-presidents could see findings annulled for violating their defence rights. In a dispatch, Tuma said MP-SP sought CCTV from Andrés’ December visit to Parque São Jorge to testify to the CJ.
Officials were surprised given the timeline. Andrés attended on the first of December last year, while the order imposing precautionary measures is dated 11 December, 10 days later, so his testimony is viewed as compliant.
The document also criticises the board’s handling of the cases, saying management has not shared full rulings with the council. That has left committees unsure what they can do lawfully.
It notes prosecutor Cássio Conserino sought a civil inquiry into judicial intervention at Corinthians, alleging court orders were ignored in the impeachment of former president Augusto Melo. Continuing the cases against Andrés and Duilio now could be viewed similarly.
The dispatch asks the legal department to notify MP-SP, seek the case files for the council and request authority to summon the ex-presidents. The department has received the order, but there is no timetable for filings and there was no response to a request for comment.
