A fan poll shows a narrow majority backing Fabrizio Angileri’s renewal for 2027, with a sizeable minority opposed. According to Meu Timao, 57.4% favoured an extension and 42.6% were against.

Angileri joined in February 2025 from Getafe on a free to cover left-back and the left of defence.

He impressed early, supplying an assist on debut and helping the 2025 Paulista triumph. In April he suffered tendinitis in his left hamstring, Matheus Bidu reclaimed the role and Dorival Júnior later used him less.

Across 2025 he played 42 games and made two assists, also filling in as a left-sided centre-back in a back three. Talks to extend, led by executive Fabinho Soldado in August, failed and he began 2026 without a contract.

With Marcelo Paz taking over negotiations, he re-signed until 31 December 2026. This year he has played in only nine of 28 matches, missed January and the Supercopa do Brasil, a 2-0 win over Flamengo on 1 February at Mané Garrincha.

Bidu is first choice at left-back, with Hugo Farias as back-up. Angileri is the only left-footed centre-back, while Gustavo Henrique, Gabriel Paulista, André Ramalho, João Pedro Tchoca and Iago Machado are right-footed.

He, Ramalho, Farias, André Carrillo, Jesse Lingard, Zakaria Labyad and Vitinho can sign pre-contracts elsewhere. The squad are in mid-season training under Fernando Diniz since 25 June, with FC Cascavel on 12 July at 16:00 in Paraná before a home league return against Remo on 23 July.
