Corinthians Futsal keeper hails LNF win and Fiel fans, eyes season

On Friday night, October 17, Corinthians hosted Carlos Barbosa at the Wlamir Marques Gymnasium, Parque São Jorge, for the second leg of the LNF Round of 16 and won 2–1. In the first game, the teams drew 1–1. The Alvinegro’s goals were scored by Luisinho and Deives.

After the match, which qualified Timão for the quarterfinals, goalkeeper Lucas Oliveira, the standout of the game, spoke to the press, assessing his performance: “When we wear this jersey, we have to make a difference. When the team needs us, we have to be there. The team wasn’t doing so well, (but) we have to keep the team in the game and then we managed to score two goals. Congratulations to everyone; our marking was also very good, which makes the goalkeepers’ job easier.”

He reflected on the pressure from the opponents during the games. “In the first game it’s normal; you’re playing away, you’re under a certain pressure, especially because they were trying to overturn the advantage we had from the better campaign. And here it’s normal too; we made it 2–0, and then it’s natural in the game that the team that’s losing, needing the result, takes a few more risks, right?” he said.

The keeper valued the presence of the Faithful at Wlamir Marques supporting the team: “In recent years we ended up having fewer fans here, and thank God we’ve been getting them back. We made a point of calling the fans to come help us, and that’s what we need, that’s what we like, this atmosphere, the Faithful supporting us. We say it in the locker room: all of us here, wearing this shirt, it’s a childhood dream to be here with these fans on our side.”

Lucas stated that, due to a wrist injury, this has been his toughest season, but he thanked the staff and teammates for his great return. “Thanks to the staff, especially Jonatas (Bursaca), who was always by my side, running training for the group and a separate one for me. So thanks to him and to the other goalkeepers, right, Koji and Kelvin, who have also helped me; besides being coworkers, we’re very good friends.”

The goalkeeper also said he has no preferred opponent in the quarters, as it would be a clásico whether Magnus or Santo André advance, projecting the team’s continuation, which is still alive in the Paulistão as well: “Physically, look to balance rest with preparation. You have to rest when you can and prepare as much as possible, and mentally you have to be strong. But our team has plenty of experienced guys and the youngsters coming in have a good head on their shoulders too, right, so our team has everything it needs to keep this run going.”

Finally, Lucas spoke about his time at Parque São Jorge so far, praising the club. “I always had this desire (to defend Corinthians). I played here in the youth ranks, right, I played U-17 and a bit of U-20 here, but the senior level is different, right. When the invitation came, I didn’t think twice, I accepted because it’s not an invitation, it’s a call-up, it’s a summons for you to come wear this jersey”, he concluded.
