Daniel Farke is set to serve a one-game touchline ban in Sunday’s FA Cup fifth-round tie against Norwich City, rather than risk harsher punishment by appealing.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the Leeds United manager was charged with misconduct on Wednesday after being sent off following the 1-0 defeat at Manchester City. He approached referee Peter Bankes, though he says he neither acted aggressively nor used abusive language.
The charge relates to him entering the pitch at full time to confront the match officials, contrary to Law 12, with a response due by Friday 6 March.
He can appeal, but any challenge would go to an independent three-person regulatory commission, and if rejected the suspension could be extended by a further match.
Farke is therefore expected to accept the sanction and sit in the stands against his former club. That would avoid the risk of missing next weekend’s trip to Crystal Palace and the visit of Brentford to Elland Road on Saturday, 21 March.
Farke said he was unhappy with the added time and hurried on to seek a quiet explanation, referencing a time-wasting yellow card and incidents including a possible handball and the Gruev decision. He felt embarrassed by the red card, maintains he neither swore nor accused the officials, and believes even the assistants were surprised. He stressed his respect for referees, noted almost 20 years without a red, and said he has learned not to jog onto the pitch, adding it was never a red in his view while accepting it is not his decision.
