Corinthians have sacked Dorival Júnior after a 1-0 home defeat to Internacional at the Neo Química Arena. The result extended their winless run this year to nine matches. He had been in charge for almost a year and won two trophies.
The club said in a statement that Under-20 coach William Batista will lead first-team training for now.
Dorival is the ninth coach dismissed by Corinthians after a game in Itaquera since 2014. The first was Cristóvão Borges in September 2016 after a 2-0 loss to Palmeiras.
In September 2020 Tiago Nunes went after another 2-0 defeat to Palmeiras, with Vagner Mancini arriving. Mancini was removed in May 2021 following a 2-0 loss to the same rivals in the Paulista semi-finals.
Sylvinho was sacked in February 2022 after a 2-1 defeat to Santos in the Paulistão. In April 2023 Cuca resigned moments after a win over Remo that sealed a Copa do Brasil last-16 place, ending a six-day, two-game stint.
Vanderlei Luxemburgo was dismissed in September 2023 after a 1-1 home draw with Fortaleza in the Sudamericana semi-finals. Mano Menezes was then sacked in February after a 3-1 home defeat to Novorizontino in the Paulista.
Ramón Díaz completed 2024 and began the next campaign by winning the State Championship, then was dismissed less than a month later after a 2-0 home loss to Fluminense. Corinthians visit Platense on Thursday at 21:00 in the Libertadores group opener at the Estádio Coliseo de Victoria.
