Following FC Bayern’s turbulent 3-3 draw against 1. FC Heidenheim, sporting director Max Eberl spoke openly about the status of contract talks with Konrad Laimer – and revealed that the two sides are still far apart.

Immediately after the match, Eberl commented on the situation of the Austrian international and confirmed ongoing talks, but also made it clear that there is no agreement yet: „There are talks and ideas – at the moment we are not yet in agreement. But that’s okay, there is no bad blood, no resentment, just two different points of view. We just have to see if we can find a common denominator.“

The statements fit in with the latest reports surrounding Laimer, according to which there are said to be differences, particularly over financial issues. Although the versatile Austrian is one of the most reliable players in the squad in sporting terms, the two sides have so far been unable to agree on common terms when it comes to extending his contract.

This is said to be mainly due to the 28-year-old’s high demands. Laimer currently earns around eight to nine million euros a year. For a new contract, he is demanding a total package of around 15 million euros including bonus payments.

Another statement by the Bayern board member was interesting. When asked whether an extension would be necessary to avoid losing Laimer on a free transfer in 2027, Eberl explained: „He came to us on a free transfer, so we wouldn’t lose much.“ This assessment shows that the club is not prepared to give in at any price – and that Laimer is clearly not indispensable to FC Bayern.

It remains to be seen what will happen next, but one thing is clear: both sides still need to come much closer together. Otherwise, the contract poker surrounding Konrad Laimer could become one of the most exciting personnel issues at FC Bayern in the coming months.
