Aston Villa are preparing for another summer of careful juggling, with Unai Emery prioritising attacking recruits while the club work within UEFA settlement terms agreed last year after a financial fair play breach. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the Europa League winners want to strengthen even after sealing a Champions League place.
Emery’s plan centres on pace out wide, with two wingers targeted. A striker is being sought, placing some doubt over Tammy Abraham’s future, and a right-sided defender is wanted to compete with Matty Cash.
Any arrivals will need to be matched by departures, with Villa open to moving on Leon Bailey and Evann Guessand. The future of goalkeeper Emi Martinez is also uncertain.
There have been claims in Italy of talks between Juventus and the Argentina international’s representative, though Villa have not had a formal approach.
Much could hinge on Morgan Rogers, who has admirers but is regarded by Emery as integral. Villa are reluctant to sell and are expected to seek at least £100m, while Rogers is not pushing to leave and little is likely before the World Cup.
Targets under consideration include Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes and Paris Saint-Germain teenager Ibrahim Mbaye.
