Leeds United defender Sebastiaan Bornauw is being lined up for a potential return to former club FC Köln this summer, Kicker reports. The move is mooted less than a year after his arrival at Elland Road amid limited game-time.

Bornauw joined from Wolfsburg on a four-year contract, arriving alongside fellow former Wolfsburg forward Lukas Nmecha as Daniel Farke strengthened his squad.

Jaka Bijol has established himself at centre-back and fitness issues have restricted Bornauw. He has four Premier League starts, mainly covering injuries, and five late substitute outings of around one minute plus added time.

Interest also emerged in January but, with Leeds battling to stay up and Joe Rodon sidelined, a departure was quickly dismissed. With the Whites now virtually safe, fresh Bundesliga links have followed.

Köln are planning a defensive refresh and know the Belgian well from his 2018-2021 spell, when he made 57 appearances and scored seven goals.

Any exit rests largely with Leeds, given the 27-year-old has three years left on his deal and the club are under no pressure to sell. A sale would only deliver profit if a bid exceeds the remaining book value on their accounts.
