Leeds United centre-back Sebastiaan Bornauw is being considered for a return to FC Koln this summer, less than a year after his Elland Road move, Kicker reports.

Bornauw joined for €6million (£5.2m) last summer on a four-year deal and was followed by £15m signing Jaka Bijol as Daniel Farke strengthened his defence.

Bijol has established himself in the starting line-up, while Bornauw’s minutes have been limited in part by fitness issues. The Belgian has four Premier League starts, largely covering injuries, plus five very late substitute outings.

Interest surfaced in January but, with Leeds battling to stay up and Joe Rodon sidelined, a move was quickly ruled out. With the Whites now virtually safe, fresh links have emerged.

The report lists Bornauw as a candidate for Koln, who are planning a defensive restructure. The Billy Goats are six points above the drop with two matches left and are preparing for next season.

Bornauw previously played for Koln between 2018 and 2021, making 57 appearances and scoring seven goals. Any decision now rests with Leeds, as the 27-year-old has three years remaining and the club have no pressing need to sell. With roughly £3.75m of his initial fee still on the books, a higher bid would be required to post a profit.
