Fernando Seabra set to take charge at Vasco after sealing an agreement on Wednesday, having already bid farewell to Coritiba. He is expected in Rio de Janeiro in the coming days, with the clubs still discussing his release clause.

Globo.com reports that Vasco’s hierarchy have long rated Seabra’s ability to organise teams, read games and vary systems. The club also wanted a reset of the mood at CT Moacyr Barbosa.

Renato Gaúcho’s tenure had frayed amid strains with the squad and board. Remarks in a press conference about Marino Hinestroza, and about Colombians and Ecuadorians struggling to adapt to Brazilian football, irritated many players.

At Coritiba, Seabra prioritised transitions and a strong counter-attack. He looked to release Breno Lopes and Pedro Rocha into space, and at times found sustained build-up harder. He also shifted from early high pressing to a more direct plan as matches demanded.

He will bring assistants Vinicius Rováris and Álvaro Martins, fitness coach Fábio Eiras, plus a performance analyst to be named. Eiras previously worked at Vasco in 2023 and the year before.

His first top-flight post was Cruzeiro in 2024, where he revived form in league and Sul-Americana. He then led Bragantino, avoided the Z-4 on the final day and left after a 3-0 loss to Vasco, finishing with 56 games, 18 wins, 14 draws and 24 defeats. At Coritiba, appointed late in 2025 to replace Mozart, he had them seventh before the pause, with 28 games, 11 wins, nine draws and eight losses.
