Mahdi Camara struck twice in Rennes' 3-0 win at Auxerre on Sunday, then departed to a late embrace from new coach Franck Haise as the pair set aside last summer's dispute.

After another tireless run, the midfielder made way in the 88th minute having scored two of the three goals. According to L'Équipe, relations had soured when Haise, then Nice boss, bristled at Camara's U-turn after an agreement with Brest, as he chose Rennes for eight million euros.

Haise had said there was an agreement with the player and Brest, accepted that football can change before contracts are signed, and felt reversing that agreement within three hours raised questions of values.

On taking charge on Wednesday, he sought to defuse the issue. He indicated disappointment can prompt certain words, that he had wanted Camara, and that Rennes were more persuasive than OGC Nice. He added he was pleased to see the player again.

Camara, 27, asked to meet before the match to clear the air, and said they quickly agreed to pull in the same direction. Haise later described their exchange at Abbé-Deschamps as a great moment and said there were no issues. On the pitch, Camara impressed in a 4-3-3 as an advanced midfielder, echoing his Brest form.
