Liverpool opted to hold on to Federico Chiesa through the summer transfer window - despite plenty of speculation suggesting the winger would be off.
Chiesa, 27, was left out of Liverpool’s preseason tour to Asia and appeared destined to return to Serie A. There was no shortage of interest from Italian sides - with AC Milan, Napoli, Atalanta and Roma all reported to be interested.

After a difficult first season in red - albeit one that ended with the Premier League title - it was reckoned the club would cut their losses. Chiesa was unfit and out of form when he signed from Juventus in a deal that could end up reaching £12.5m.
And he never really impressed during his first season - losing his place in the Italy squad in the process. But Chiesa has battled back.
He was a useful substitute in the first Premier League game of the season - scoring on matchday 1 against Bournemouth - and has been a fixture in Slot’s matchday squads since then.
It caps a stunning turnaround for the crowd favourite - who finally looks up to the rigours of Premier League football. There is MORE to come however - despite Chiesa missing out on the Italian squad for the World Cup qualification matches this month.
Indeed Italy manager Gennaro Gattuso admits that it was a joint decision which led the Euro 2020 winner to sit out these matches against Estonia and Israel.
