Grêmio are moving to reinforce after a 4-2 loss in Gre-Nal 449, with the Campeonato Gaúcho registration cut-off next Friday, one working day before the final round of the first phase. The transfer window remains open until 3 March.
According to Globo.com, the club are seeking a holding midfielder and an attacking playmaker requested by Luís Castro at his presentation, and are working to advance signings after weekend confirmation that Guido Rodriguez agreed terms with Valencia in Spain.
Bitello and Raphael Veiga were sounded out for the creative role, but neither interest progressed to negotiations due to financial reasons.
The hierarchy do not want to rely solely on Cristaldo for the rest of the season. The Argentine started Gre-Nal 449, was subdued and substituted at half-time. Monsalve, an alternative for the role, was injured on 7 January, returned to training last week and is under reassessment, having not been included since 9 November last year.
For the number six position, beyond Rodriguez, Grêmio also tried Evertton Araújo, but Flamengo did not move forward with a release. As the clock ticks, Luís Castro prepares for the Brasileirão opener, with Grêmio facing Fluminense at 19:30 on Wednesday at the Maracanã.
