Grêmio and Luís Castro are exchanging documents and are close to finalising talks, with both sides reviewing draft contracts before any confirmation.
According to Globo.com, the process is currently bureaucratic, yet neither side considers the hiring complete. Clause checks remain significant and, in a hypothetical scenario, could still unravel the agreement, hence the caution.
The deal is planned as two years, with the option of a further one. His staff is expected to comprise six members, costing about R$ two million in total. The current expectation is that he will travel to Porto Alegre only for the squad presentation scheduled for January.
Talks have progressed well since Tuesday. Optimism has been present on both sides since the departure of head coach Mano Menezes was communicated that day.
The club also plan to recruit a head scout for data analysis aligned with the new coach. Fernando Lázaro, who oversaw the department under the Alberto Guerra administration, left during the change of management, and there have been further exits in the football department.
Castro is assessing the club’s youngsters to gauge development potential and any immediate first-team use.
