Grêmio’s new hierarchy are reshaping the squad for 2026 and have adopted a firmer stance in transfer talks after Mano Menezes left and Luis Castro arrived.
According to Gremistas.net, negotiations are active for both arrivals and departures, and the club will now prioritise the most favourable terms for itself, particularly on exits.
Vice-president of football Antônio Dutra Jr., director Rafael Lima and executive Paulo Pelaipe are handling offers and responses on a case-by-case basis.
The previous administration under Alberto Guerra tended to favour players’ wishes, sometimes rejecting more lucrative proposals to allow preferred destinations, aiming to keep a positive dressing-room climate and to avoid disengaged players remaining in the training centre routine.
This time the club intend to let its own interests prevail, and a proposal involving forward Cristian Olivera’s desire to join Nacional in Uruguay was turned down because the terms were not considered acceptable.
Further moves along these lines are viewed internally as likely, with early decisions seen as key to maintaining hierarchy and to striking better deals without yielding to pressure from players or agents.
