Yui Hasegawa and Ayaka Yamashita have been included in the FIFPRO Team of the Tournament for the recent Asian Cup.
Japan won the tournament, beating hosts Australia 1-0 in the final in front of more than 70,000 people in Sydney.
Hasegawa played all six games across the tournament, captaining her country to glory, while Yamashita conceded just one goal in four appearances in net.
The pair were selected amongst the best players at the tournament by more than 100 of their peers in what is the first player-voted honour of its kind at a continental tournament in Asia.
They were joined in the winning squad by City team-mates Aoba Fujino and Risa Shimizu, while Mary Fowler featured for eventual runners-up Australia.
Nadeshiko were early favourites ahead of the competition, and they delivered on their backing by scoring 17 goals and conceding none across their three group matches.
A last four clash with Group A winners South Korea followed, but Japan marched on to the showpiece with a 4-1 triumph, with all four City players featuring.
That set up a tie with Fowler’s Australia in the final, with the Japanese reclaiming their crown from 2018 with a hard-fought victory.
Yamashita was subsequently named the best goalkeeper at the tournament before this latest award which follows in the footsteps of the FIFPRO World XI, where professionals select the best players of the previous 12 months.
Congratulations to Yui and Ayaka on this outstanding recognition!
