Sport BILD reports that Hoffenheim have ended their move for Werder Bremen midfielder Jens Stage after Wouter Burger extended his contract early.

The clubs had been in talks over a summer transfer for the Dane, who scored 10 Bundesliga goals last season, but Hoffenheim would not meet Bremen’s €14 million valuation of the 29-year-old.

Stage had agreed a four-year contract with Hoffenheim, yet the sides remained far apart on fee. Bremen rejected two offers in early June, the second still below €10 million.

Stage is under contract at Bremen until 2028. The club are seeking to move on in-demand players to balance the books.

He has spoken of a desire to play for bigger clubs. According to DeichStube, firm interest from a financially strong Premier League side could change his situation again.
