Wrexham director Humphrey Ker has cast doubt on claims of a £19m move for Angers forward Sidiki Cherif. "To the best of my knowledge, it's a lot of exciting speculation," he said on talkSPORT.
"We're looking at lots of different players at the moment, but to say that we've launched a £19 million bid, I'm not sure that's a hundred per cent correct."
Reports had linked the Championship club with the 19-year-old, who is also of interest to Crystal Palace. Any deal would surpass Wrexham's £10m signing of Nathan Broadhead and the division's £17.3m record for Sindre Walle Egeli.
Cherif has four goals in 18 Ligue 1 appearances this season. Wrexham are ninth in the Championship, two points off the play-offs.
"One thing we've definitely noticed is that we get used at times as a sort of stalking horse for other contract negotiations and for transfers," Ker said. "I'm not saying that's what's happening in this situation."
