Ireland have called up Benfica’s youth forward Jaden Umeh, with head coach Heimir Hallgrímsson praising the 18-year-old’s potential.

According to Glorioso 1904, Hallgrímsson said Umeh has enormous potential, that his ceiling is unclear, and that he is eager to work with him to understand his limits.

The 58-year-old highlighted the impact Umeh has already made for Benfica’s youth sides and said they will see whether he is ready for the senior team.

He described Umeh as a natural goalscorer, physically strong for his age and able to help the team, and noted his dribbling and ball-carrying. He added that it will be interesting to work with him over the next 11 days.

Umeh has 13 goals and five assists in 33 matches for Benfica’s youth teams in 2025/26. Signed from Cork City in summer 2024, the forward is under contract until 2027 and could debut for Ireland against Grenada, from North America, on 16 May.
