It’s a “big fight” between Chelsea and Liverpool to sign Rennes centre back Jeremy Jacquet according to Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea are looking to sign a new centre back, and have identified Jacquet as their primary target, but are yet to make an offer.

The France under-21 international is under contract with Rennes until 2029, with the Ligue 1 outfit said to want £55-£60m.

Chelsea and Liverpool to battle it out for Jeremy Jacquet

Jacquet reportedly only wants to join Chelsea, and has agreed personal terms with the Blues, but any move would be with a view to the summer.

Liverpool are said to be interested in the 20-year-old and Romano has now provided an update on the situation.

It’s reportedly between Chelsea and Liverpool for Jacquet.

“It’s a big fight between Chelsea and Liverpool for Jacquet to join in the summer, they are battling on every detail, every million,” he told his YouTube channel.

“Both clubs going head to head on their projects, the salary, the development of the player with both clubs trying to get his green light.”

Whether a deal gets agreed before Monday’s 7pm deadline remains to be seen, but either way Jacquet wouldn’t be making an immediate switch.

Mamadou Sarr set to return to Chelsea

Whilst Chelsea continue to negotiate for Jacquet, it appears Mamadou Sarr is on his way back to the club from Strasbourg.

Sarr joined the Blues last summer, and made his debut at the Club World Cup, but then joined Strasbourg on a season loan.

However, Chelsea want him back and he’s reportedly expected in London on Monday, whilst Aaron Anselmino will be his replacement at the Ligue 1 outfit.

Liam Rosenior knows Sarr well having worked with the 20-year-old for 18 months during his time in charge of Strasbourg, and it will be interesting to see how much of a chance he gets over the second half of the season.
