According to Glorioso 1904, Jakub Kaminski, 24, is in line to become Benfica’s 11th arrival from the German top flight, if the transfer is confirmed. The Poland international winger, from Köln, is viewed as a priority by the hierarchy led by Rui Costa to bolster Marco Silva’s attack.
His prospective move would place him among a group who have made the same switch to the Estádio da Luz. Notable names include Robert Enke, Hans-Jörg Butt, Haris Seferović, Julian Weigl, Luka Waldschmidt, John Brooks, Jan-Niklas Beste, Leandro Barreiro, Jovica Simanić and Hany Mukhtar.
Several left a clear mark. Seferović won the national title in 2018/19 and became a leading forward over several seasons, while Weigl made 105 official appearances before returning to German football.
Others had quieter spells, among them Brooks, Waldschmidt, Mukhtar and Beste. Enke remains fondly remembered for his time as Benfica’s goalkeeper from 1999/00 to 2001/02.
Attention now turns to Kaminski, who is preparing for a new challenge at the Estádio da Luz. If the deal goes through, he will aim to meet the expectations around his signing and to emulate the successes of some predecessors.
