Leeds United are in talks over a new deal for 35-year-old Karl Darlow, whose contract expires this month, while the club confirmed Illan Meslier will depart on a free at the end of June.

Despite rumoured Premier League interest, Leeds want to keep the Wales international after his key role in avoiding relegation last season.

Darlow began as back-up but displaced summer signing Lucas Perri in January to become first choice. He kept five clean sheets in 22 games and received a save-of-the-season nomination for a stop against Wolves.

Even if he re-signs, Leeds are expected to recruit a goalkeeper this summer, so Darlow could return to a supporting role.

Meslier goes as a two-time Championship winner with 215 appearances across nearly seven years at Elland Road. After costly mistakes, he was demoted to third choice and has not played a senior competitive minute for more than 12 months.

With Meslier leaving and Darlow’s future unresolved, Perri could be the only senior keeper under contract by 1 July, prompting a push to secure existing options.

Sam Byram and reserve keeper Alex Cairns are also discussing expiring deals. Byram made just five appearances last season and is expected to go, while Cairns is valued by Farke for his off-field influence.

Facundo Buonanotte will return to Brighton after a disappointing loan. The 21-year-old managed only 36 Premier League minutes and was withdrawn at half-time in his sole cup start.
