Leeds United’s 3-1 win over already-relegated Burnley under the Elland Road lights lifted them above Newcastle United and widened daylight to the bottom three.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Opta have issued a fresh verdict with an updated predicted final Premier League table and points after Friday night’s result.
Burnley set up with a back five, but Anton Stach struck in the first half. After the break, Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored within eight minutes of each other to seal it.
The victory moved Leeds, who began the weekend 15th, to 43 points and above Newcastle, who are one point behind with a game in hand.
More significantly, the cushion to the drop is now nine points, with third-bottom Tottenham Hotspur having four matches left, starting with Sunday night’s trip to Aston Villa.
Leeds are seven points clear of fourth-bottom West Ham, who visit Brentford on Saturday afternoon, and four ahead of fifth-bottom Nottingham Forest, who go to Chelsea on Bank Holiday Monday. The updated rundown arrives before the rest of the weekend’s games.
