Leeds United’s finishing place will shape their summer, with new Squad Cost Ratio limits making extra revenue vital. According to Leeds Live, clubs may spend up to 85% of revenue on on-pitch costs, a change that leaves Leeds worse off than last summer.

Friday’s 3-1 win at Burnley put them on 43 points, not safe in theory but widely seen clear. No Premier League side has gone down with 43 points in a 38-game season. They can still reach 50 points.

To mirror last year’s headroom, extra income is needed, with a similar budget expected after spending more than £100m in 2025. The FA Cup semi-final run has added about £1.5m.

Merit payments are roughly £3m per place, so 13th rather than 15th is worth about £6m. With the cup cash, about £7.5m could be the difference between signing an elite striker or goalkeeper, or not.

Leeds sought amendments and were among six to vote against SCR in November, yet 14 backed it, passing at the lowest possible threshold. Rising wages mean the rules will initially not help.

Farke said he does not want to stop at 43 points, noting there were 12 to play for and three already secured, while ruling out Europe next season but targeting the highest finish possible.

They also need to improve sales, with Rasmus Kristensen’s £7.7m move to Eintracht Frankfurt the top fee last summer, while Wilfried Gnonto and Joel Piroe may assess futures and could command larger sums.
