Leeds United have been hit by a fresh injury concern after Joe Rodon limped off in the 1-1 draw at Sunderland, leaving Daniel Farke facing a defensive reshuffle before Liverpool on New Year’s Day.
According to Leeds Live, the centre-back was hurt in a heavy challenge at the Stadium of Light, tried to play on but was forced off in severe pain. He was replaced by Ao Tanaka and Leeds earned a point without him.
Rodon had featured in the last 104 matches, and a congested run now looms across multiple competitions. Next is Anfield on New Year’s Day, after a 3-3 against Liverpool at Elland Road earlier in December. Arne Slot’s side have since won four in a row in all competitions.
After the match, Farke said Rodon took a blow to his ankle and appeared to roll it, with the ankle swollen. He doubts the defender will be available for Liverpool and the subsequent league games before the FA Cup, pending further assessment. He added that the situation does not look good.
The 28-year-old joins Daniel James and Sean Longstaff on the treatment table. James has been sidelined since the November 29 defeat to Manchester City with a hamstring problem. Longstaff has not featured since the November 23 loss to Aston Villa because of a calf injury, and both were ruled out indefinitely before Sunderland. Liverpool also looks too soon for both.
