The 25-year-old earned a first call-up since November 2024, replacing injured compatriot Filip Ugrinić, after a strained spell with coach Murat Yakin over minutes and communication. He has four Premier League goals in 24 appearances and posted that his World Cup dream remains alive.

Switzerland’s warm-up ended 4-3 to Germany, with Leeds midfielder Anton Stach playing 10 minutes for Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

Okafor has only just returned from a hamstring problem that ruled him out of five league and cup games. Clarity is expected by five pm when teams are named. Leeds return to the Premier League in almost two weeks, but visit West Ham in an FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday.

Gabriel Gudmundsson also sustained a knock early in the break, going off midway through the second half of Sweden’s World Cup play-off win over Ukraine, though he later allayed fears before tonight’s final against Poland. Wales are closely monitoring Daniel James after close to 90 minutes in their play-off semi-final defeat to Bosnia & Herzegovina on penalties, following his winter layoff with a hamstring tendon injury at Manchester City in November.
