Leicester City reached the FA Cup fourth round as first-half goals from Patson Daka and Stephy Mavididi saw off League Two Cheltenham. It also delivered their first clean sheet in nearly four months.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, a first sell-out in 13 years greeted the hosts, but City avoided drama after heavy rotation, with Marti Cifuentes making eight changes. Louis Page returned to the 11 for the first time since August, while Bade Aluko and Silko Thomas made their second starts.

City controlled possession but were open to counters, Luke Young curling a free-kick just wide before Robbie Cundy headed over. From their first clear chance, Mavididi’s footwork and pass found Daka, who curled into the far corner for his second of the season.

Joe Day tipped Jannik Vestergaard’s header onto the bar, then Asmir Begovic dived to save from Jordan Thomas. Mavididi soon spun Jonathan Tomkinson on the touchline, cut inside and scored via a deflection before the break.

Cheltenham improved after the restart, Thomas twisting Hamza Choudhury before a dink that Begovic touched over. City fashioned little until added time, when Oliver Skipp’s volley was pushed wide. The fourth-round draw is on Monday evening.

Mavididi was the top performer with an eight. Six team-mates were marked seven, while several others received six. Three substitutes were given five, and Wanya Marcal was not rated.
