Lucas Bergvall has formally informed Tottenham Hotspur of his desire to leave the club, according to The Athletic.

The 20-year-old has made it clear to the Spurs hierarchy that he is seeking a fresh challenge. Bergvall’s decision follows a 2025/26 campaign spent largely on the periphery.

While he initially became a fan favourite after his £8.5 million move from Djurgarden in 2024, his progress has stalled.

The ‘unstoppable‘ midfielder has struggled for meaningful game time, often limited to second-half substitute appearances late last season.

Adding to his frustrations over limited involvement, Bergvall’s camp is well aware of Tottenham’s ongoing transfer activity.

The Lilywhites are currently targeting high-profile midfielders such as Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes.

Recognising that the midfield overhaul could push him further down the pecking order, Bergvall has chosen to proactively address his future.

Despite his challenging club situation, Bergvall’s stock remains high in the European market. He is currently representing Sweden at the 2026 World Cup in North America.

He made his tournament debut off the bench in a 5-1 group-stage victory over Tunisia and supplied an assist.

Chelsea and Aston Villa have previously enquired about a move, but Spurs considered him untouchable at the time – a stance that has since changed.

It is unclear if either club will revisit their interest in Bergvall.
