Lucas Paquetá returns to Flamengo for a record fee
It's now official: Lucas Paquetá is leaving West Ham United and making his return to Flamengo. The London club has confirmed the departure of the Brazilian attacking midfielder, while the Rio de Janeiro giants have celebrated the homecoming of their former prodigy in grand style.
At 28, Paquetá brings his European adventure to a close after a memorable stint in England. Wearing the Hammers' shirt, he made 139 appearances, scored 23 goals, and provided 15 assists, playing a pivotal role in the club's UEFA Europa Conference League triumph.
The decision is a bold one: the Brazilian international (61 caps) has chosen to return home, sealing a historic transfer. Flamengo paid €41.25 million, making this the biggest transfer in Brazilian and South American football history.
Paquetá, a product of Flamengo's youth academy, had left the club for Europe, making stops at AC Milan, Olympique Lyonnais, and then West Ham. His return is highly symbolic for both player and club.
