Adam Karabec has been omitted from Czechia’s reduced World Cup squad, trimmed from 54 to 29 names. According to L'Équipe, head coach Mirolav Koubek unveiled the streamlined pre-selection on Thursday.
The Lyon attacking midfielder, 22, on loan from Sparta Prague, will not be part of the tournament running from 11 June to 19 July. Pavel Sulc, the other Lyon player, is assured of travelling to the Americas.
There are surprises, with three uncapped players included. Pavel Bucha, 28, of Cincinnati, Christophe Kabongo of Mlada Boleslav and 17-year-old Hugo Sochurek of Sparta Prague have all been called up, with Sochurek widely touted as a future national star.
The final squad is due after the friendly against Kosovo on Sunday 31 May.
Czechia begin their Group A campaign against South Korea on 12 June at 04:00, then face South Africa on 18 June at 18:00 and one of the co-hosts, Mexico, on 25 June at 03:00.
