Ruben Amorim was left sweating despite Manchester United’s dramatic late win against Burnley before the international break due to injuries to two key stars.
Matheus Cunha had pulled up early in the first half with what looked like a hamstring injury. He asked to be subbed off immediately.
To add to the head coach’s woes, Mason Mount did not appear for the second half, with Kobbie Mainoo replacing him, with the Portuguese tactician confirming after the game that the Englishman had also picked up a knock.
The Peoples Person has since relayed that the Brazilian’s injury is not as bad as initially feared with a return to the matchday squad a real possibility ahead of the Manchester derby next weekend.
And now, as per Centredevils, even the ex-Chelsea midfielder could be back in time for the clash against Pep Guardiola’s side.
The report states that it is only a “minor” injury, and the 26-year-old has been spending time at Carrington, working out in the gym.
“CentreDevils can exclusively reveal Mason Mount’s injury is not seen as serious and can be considered ‘minor’.
“We can reveal that the 26-year-old is now doing strength and rehabilitation work at the gym while also working on physical motion recovery work.”
The England international has been in great form this season, playing a major role both in and out of possession.
Amorim has been so impressed with his intensity that Mason Mount has started all three Premier League games for the 20-time English league champions, with new signing Benjamin Sesko adopting a watching brief from the bench.
Ahead of the Manchester derby, Amorim needs all the help he can get and both his attacking midfielders regaining fitness would be a huge boon for the ex-Sporting CP boss.
Whether he opts for the same forward line, or chooses to tweak the system will be interesting to see.
