Wolves sporting director Matt Jackson has flown to Portugal to meet new head coach Cesar Peixoto and map out plans for next season.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, transfer strategy has been central to discussions, with Peixoto tasked with delivering a return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Rob Edwards had been integral to the club’s approach to the window. How far that changes after last week’s surprise switch remains unclear, though agent Jorge Mendes is expected to play a key role after brokering Peixoto’s move.

Reports linking Wolves with Famalicao right-back Rodrigo Pinheiro are understood to be wide of the mark.

Peixoto signed a two-year deal at the end of last week and returned to Portugal. The 46-year-old is awaiting a work permit before he can officially start at Compton Park and views pre-season as crucial.

Talks with senior players are planned before the bulk of the squad report back in early July.

Several futures require resolution, including that of striker Sasa Kalajdzic, who has one year left on his contract. After two league starts in four injury-hit years and a loan at LASK last season, he says he is open-minded, would give everything if he stays, and accepts the summer will be about what suits both sides.
