Looking at this Newcastle team v Brighton.
Only hours to go now before the Premier League match at the Amex Stadium.
Newcastle United looking to make it three wins in a row.
This follow the Champions League 4-0 victory in Brussels, then the 2-0 at home to Forest in the Premier League.
So can Eddie Howe’s side follow it up with another big victory, get Newcastle climbing the Premier League table further and get a first ever PL era victory at Brighton?
As a reminder, this was the Newcastle team v Nottingham Forest:
Pope, Trippier, Thiaw, Botman, Burn, Bruno, Joelinton, Tonali, Gordon, Woltemade, Elanga
Eddie Howe gave an update on Friday, regarding injury and availability for this Brighton match (and beyond).
Yoane Wissa, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento all still working their way back from injury.
However, Eddie Howe confirmed that Jacob Ramsey will return to the matchday squad today.
The NUFC Head Coach did though reveal that Will Osula has a ‘small ankle injury’ and that they are monitoring him on a match by match basis.
Eddie Howe was asked about media rumours of a problem with the Joelinton’s groin after coming on as a sub for Bruno in Brazil’s 3-2 defeat to Japan. The United boss reassuring everybody that he thinks the midfielder is fine and will be available for Brighton.
Eddie Howe also stating that there don’t appear to be any injury concerns with the others who have been on international duty.
As always, the United boss will rarely give much away, as he likes to keep the opposition guessing. Many a time in the past there have been good AND bad surprises when the actual starting eleven is announced.
Sandro Tonali also appeared to pick up a knock on international duty but played on after treatment.
Today’s team selection potentially further complicated with that huge Champions League match in only three days time at home to Benfica.
So where does that leave us?
This is my predicted Newcastle team v Nottingham Forest:
Pope, Trippier, Thiaw, Botman, Burn, Bruno, Tonali, Ramsey, Barnes, Woltemade, Murphy
If this predicted starting eleven proves correct, it would mean three changes from the team that started and beat Forest.
Ramsey, Barnes and Murphy coming in for Joelinton, Gordon and Elanga.
Eddie Howe may well once again go with an unchanged team but my feeling is that especially with Benfica on Tuesday, we will see some changes.
Joelinton only played half an hour or so on international duty but I can see him used as a sub today and trying to ensure he is fully fit for the Champions League match. Jacob Ramsey will be desperate to get back on the pitch as well.
I just think as well that with Barnes and Murphy having been training as usual with NUFC, they might get the nod to start today, with then Gordon and Elanga used as impact subs today and both come back in for Benfica to start.
When it comes to today’s starting eleven, a lot of course could depend on the physical levels of the various players, which is the info only Eddie Howe and his people have.
A bit tricky expecting Nick Woltemade to start so many matches, he started both games for Germany as well as the three previous NUFC matches, but with Yoane Wissa still injured, a lot of reliance on the German striker.
