Real Madrid made it three matches in a row without a win on Sunday, as they played out a 2-2 draw with Elche. The La Liga leaders twice fell behind, but goals from Dean Huijsen and Jude Bellingham ensured a share of the spoils.
As per Diario AS, head coach Xabi Alonso expressed his disappointment at the result, but he chose to be upbeat when looking forward.
“It’s football. After a good dynamic we have had several results that we don’t want. We know what we want, we have to move forward. We’re not happy, we always want to win. We can’t be. There are many games left, let’s think about the next one analysing what we have done today.
“We continue to compete, the context of each game is different. The result is what rules, we are aware and self-critical. The spirit is good, in the face of adversity we have to respond. This is Real Madrid. We live with criticism, we want to improve.”
One of the novelties of Alonso’s starting line-up was the inclusion of Fran Garcia as a left winger, with Vinicius Junior being benched. He explained that the Brazilian was comfortable with the decision made.
“We had talked about it. We tend to talk many times. (Vinicius) understands, he knew the role he could play. We had done it on other occasions, like in Getafe. Today we are not happy, but everyone is energetic to want to recover a good dynamic.”

Alonso also made it clear that he sees his side improving their understanding of each other, and his tactics, every day.
“The connection is improving, we have more time and more contact, we know each other better. We are all in the same boat, we celebrate the victories. We suffer if we don’t win. The connection is good. This moment must be reversed, starting with Athens.”
