Real Madrid may be focusing on exits for now, but work is still being done on adding one or two more players to Jose Mourinho’s squad. Specifically, another central defender and midfielder are wanted by the Portuguese, who has been driving the Bernabeu club’s business since he returned as head coach earlier this month.

Mourinho was instrumental in bringing Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva to the Spanish capital, and he will have a big part to play in Real Madrid’s remaining transfer business. He’s already identified Enzo Fernandez as his preferred midfielder target, and now, he could be set to lead a new deal for an Inter Milan defender.

Having already brought in Dumfries, whose signing is still waiting to be made official, Real Madrid have now turned their attention to Alessandro Bastoni. As per Diario AS, club bosses have made it clear that they want to sign the 27-year-old defender, who would be equally as keen to end up at the Bernabeu this summer.

Bastoni stock rises after Schlotterbeck injury

The situation with Real Madrid’s centre-back targets has been changing week-by-week. Earlier in the month, they had outlined Nico Schlotterbeck as a leading option, but after he suffered an ankle injury that will keep him out of action for 6-8 weeks, his stock has fallen within Valdebebas – and in return, Bastoni’s has risen.

Inter are aware that Bastoni wants to leave this summer, and Real Madrid is undoubtedly his preferred destination. He’s already paused all other options in order to prioritise an approach from Los Blancos, who are aware that any deal is likely to cost in the region of €70m.

Bastoni would be a top signing for Real Madrid, and at €70m, he would be very affordable for a club that have made it clear that they want to spend big in order to close the gap on Barcelona for the 2026-27 season. For now, it remains to be seen whether their interest results in a former offer to either Inter or the player himself.
