Regis Le Bris has delivered his assessment of Sunderland prospect Finn Geragusian after the teenager earned a first senior call-up for Armenia.
According to Sunderland Echo, the striker is yet to debut for the Black Cats’ first team but has impressed for the U18s and U21s, earning selection by head coach Yegishe Melikyan for friendlies against the United Arab Emirates and Belarus.
Geragusian described the invitation as an unbelievable moment, saying he feels proud to represent his country and family and eager to learn from new coaches and team-mates.
Melikyan said the call was made to gauge Geragusian’s readiness for senior football and to assess his longer-term international prospects. He praised the forward’s qualities and profile but stressed the 18-year-old has not played at senior level and is not yet ready for the national team. He added that Armenia are short of options up front and are exploring every possibility.
At club level, Geragusian travelled with Le Bris’ squad for FA Cup ties at Oxford United and Port Vale earlier this year and was named on the bench against the latter. He is still awaiting his Sunderland debut, though Le Bris is pleased with his progress.
The head coach said the youngster has trained with the seniors and that he likes his profile, highlighting strong physical attributes and a mentality aligned with the club and region. He noted the league’s demands for duels and first and second balls, and emphasised that experience and further development remain essential.
Geragusian has 13 goals and three assists in 27 outings across the U18s and U21s this season. In Premier League 2, he has three goals and two assists from 10 appearances.
