Barcelona’s young academy talent Dro Fernandez is very close to signing for PSG on a permanent transfer – one that the club offices are still seemingly struggling to come to terms with.

The youngster, after all, was one of the revelations of the team’s pre-season and Hansi Flick had immense faith in his quality and loyalty. In fact, he was one of the most-used players by the manager in the recently promoted crop of players.

His decision to push for a departure citing a lack of minutes, in that sense, seems unbelievable. Yet, Barcelona are on the verge of losing him and will not hinder his move to France.

The pivotal point

As relayed by SPORT in a recent update, it was Barcelona’s game against Guadalajara in the Copa del Rey that served as the point of inflexion in Dro’s story.

While Dro did earn starts against Real Sociedad and Olympiacos early in the season, his prominence soon fell understandably as the manager began to have more regular options available at his disposal.

He thereafter saw 26 minutes in the 4-0 win over Athletic Club and 17 minutes against Atletico Madrid and was hoping for prominence in the Copa del Rey where the manager rotates his team.

Flick, however, rightly took the game against Guadalajara seriously and did not underestimate them, lining up a decently strong team for the game that eventually turned out to be quite rough. Not having minutes in that game, however, affected the teenager.

It was at that point that Dro decided to leave Barcelona in search of more minutes, and he opened his doors to the offer of PSG which had been lingering around for a long time. He was angry and hurt about the situation that he could not understand.

From that point, matters progressed fast as he did not travel with the team to play against Racing Santander in the Copa del Rey, and soon communicated his decision to leave to Hansi Flick.

The report also adds that the player did not like going back to help Barça Atletic for two games as he saw himself as a first-team player. Needless to say, such an attitude at the age of 18 is quite remarkable.
