As Wolves finish 2025/26 against Burnley this afternoon, one small, joyous moment came to define a testing season.

It began in January during a goalless draw with Newcastle United, when four-year-old fan Rory Smith was filmed looking heartbroken after dad Tom swiped a chicken nugget. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the clip went viral and Tom was swiftly nicknamed the nugget thief.

Wolves moved quickly, inviting Rory back to Molineux and ensuring his next box of nuggets was safe.

During the home defeat to Bournemouth, mascot Wolfie presented fresh nuggets and a Wolves shirt, while the announcer joked that dad was barred from the food.

The feel-good gesture drew widespread praise and underlined the family feel the club aims to nurture.

Then came an unexpected twist. After the video surged online, Aldi UK, which was seeking its first official chicken nugget taster, offered Rory a role as a mini nugget tasting expert, helping sample products from its range.

The retailer said his enthusiasm resonated with people across the country, and Tom quipped there would be more nuggets for his son, and none for him.

In a campaign short on smiles, Rory’s story offered exactly that, a reminder of football’s simple joy at Molineux.
