Sunderland would have to meet Victor Munoz’s €40m clause after a failed €25m January bid, El Pais reports. The Osasuna winger, a Real Madrid academy graduate, is said to have turned down a move to Wearside.
A 50% resale clause for Real Madrid in last summer’s deal is also said to complicate any negotiations.
Munoz, 22, earned his first senior Spain call-up this month and scored on debut in Friday’s friendly win over Serbia.
He will hope to impress Luis de la Fuente again when the European champions face Egypt on Tuesday night, which could put him in contention for this summer’s World Cup squad in North America.
Sunderland are among several European clubs credited with interest in the winger.
