Team’s Up – Duran starts for Celtic, in team to face Middlesbrough | OneFootball

Martin O’Neill has named his Celtic team for this afternoon’s pre-season friendly clash with Middlesbrough. The English side are in Glasgow as both sides look to pick up their preparations for the new campaign.

In goals, Vil Sinisalo starts for Celtic.

In defence, Dane Murray partners Cameron Carter-Vickers with Liam Scales at left back and Colby Donovan on the right.

In midfield, Callum McGregor captains the side and is joined by Sean McArdle and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

In attack, Duran leads the line with James Forrest and Luke McCowan on the flanks.

Arguably McCowan could start in the middle with McArdle further forward and that’s what the team lines suggest but we know MON likes to play McCowan off the wing.

Subs: Doohan, Gill, Balikwisha, Osmand, Engels, Bernardo, Ure, Montgomery, Hatton, Hatate, Turley, Haney & Kennedy.

There are a number of players still absent – such as Yang, KT, Tounekti and Ralston (all who returned to Lennoxtown this week) as well as Daizen Maeda, Auston Trusty and Benji Nygren – who are holidaying after their World Cup exploits. Despite this, Celtic’s squad looks thin.

The lack of signings has been a major source of concern amongst the Celtic support, who have repeatedly witnessed the inactivity from the club. After last season and the pleas from Brendan Rodgers to strengthen the squad, Celtic went into the Champions League qualifiers with a depleted squad and exited to the hands of Kairat. Fans are worried that the club are sleepwalking into the same situation.
