The 11 Sunderland fringe players who could be set for summer exits

Sunderland have begun reshaping for 2026/27, with fringe duo Milan Aleksic and Harrison Jones already sealing exits in recent days. According to Sunderland Echo, further departures among peripheral players could follow this summer.

An Anthony Patterson exit feels increasingly likely. With Robin Roefs and Melker Ellborg effectively first and second choice, and after his late-season loan to Championship side Millwall, a permanent move could suit all parties and secure him regular minutes.

Abdoullah Ba has drifted from the picture and, at 22, may need a fresh start. Injury-hit Ahmed Abdullahi has shown flashes for the U21s, and a senior loan could help if he is fit. Alan Browne impressed at Middlesbrough, so a Sunderland exit feels probable.

Jenson Seelt spent time with VfL Wolfsburg and could depart, though a first-team return is not impossible. Nazariy Rusyn has been linked with a move back to Ukraine, while he has said nothing is agreed. Timothee Pembele, after Le Havre, may also move again.

Arthur Masuaku made only four appearances before a January loan to RC Lens, and it is hard to see his tally rising. Injuries have hampered Aji Alese, whose Portsmouth loan was cut short, so a change could appeal. Leo Hjelde may need a transfer to kickstart his career amid Sunderland’s rapid progression under Regis Le Bris.

For Simon Adingra, a January loan to AS Monaco included an option to buy. If it is not activated he will return to Sunderland, with his next step unclear.
