Tom Lees on Rotherham trial, could reunite with ex-Leeds teammate Alex Bruce | OneFootball

Former Leeds United defender Tom Lees is training with Rotherham United and could reunite with ex-Elland Road teammate Alex Bruce if his trial results in a contract.

After a pre-season draw with Matlock Town, Bruce said: "He's one that we're looking at. He's been in a couple of times to do a couple of sessions. We've got to monitor him. We're going to see how that pans out over the next few days." He was speaking to the Rotherham Advertiser.

Rotherham will play in League Two next season and appointed Bruce as head coach last month. He spent two years at Leeds, lining up with Lees a handful of times.

Their overlap brought seven joint appearances in the 2011/12 Championship. Bruce was recalled from a Huddersfield Town loan after Lees suffered a knock, and they later featured together under Neil Warnock.

Lees, 35, made 135 Leeds appearances before joining Sheffield Wednesday in 2014, playing 274 games across seven years. He later spent four seasons at Huddersfield and was with Peterborough United in League One last term.

The centre-back has close to 700 senior matches, having debuted on loan at Accrington Stanley in 2009. Bruce retired in 2022, managed Macclesfield, worked at Salford City, and this is his first EFL managerial post.
