West Bromwich Albion have been docked two points with immediate effect for a Profitability and Sustainability rules breach, slashing their cushion to six points with two matches remaining.

The club said in a statement that after a two-day hearing concluded on 23 April 2026 the EFL’s Club Financial Review Panel imposed the sanction without publishing written reasons, that it disagrees and believes it has complied with the rules, that the alleged breach is under £2 million which it calls the smallest recorded across the EFL and Premier League, that a change in how PSR treats community development costs, including facilities, staff time and resources for its charity partner The Albion Foundation, led to the loss calculation, and that it is considering an appeal while continuing to support the Foundation.

A two-day hearing on Wednesday and Thursday was followed by a verdict inside 24 hours.

Tuesday’s win over Watford had taken James Morrison’s side eight points clear, but the deduction drags them back into danger and drops them two places to 20th.

Oxford, in the final relegation spot, are six points behind with two left and would need to win both while Albion lose both, and overturn a goal difference swing of six, to catch them.

Morrison has overseen a nine-match unbeaten run to pull the Baggies clear, with Ipswich visiting on Saturday lunchtime.
