WSL champions Man City seek double glory as Brighton prepare for first ever FA Cup final | OneFootball

Manchester City now have their sights set on winning another trophy after their recent historic Women’s Super League title triumph. They will compete in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final at the end of the month, where they will face Brighton and Hove Albion.

The penultimate clashes of the tournament were both played on Sunday, 10th May. Brighton progressed from the semi-finals after coming out on top of a five-goal thriller against Liverpool.

City also played out a dramatic result of their own, with the same scoreline separating them from six-time winners Chelsea.

The road to the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final

Brighton stunned European champions and record FA Cup holders Arsenal in the quarter-final to reach the last four. A statement 2-0 win punched their ticket to the semis, where they were put to the test by Liverpool.

Prior to that, the Seagulls saw off Nottingham Forest in a 2-0 win in the fourth round. Followed by a close 2-1 victory over West Ham in the fifth. That win then set up the clash with 14-time FA Cup champions Arsenal, with goals from Madison Haley and Caitlin Hayes sealing the deal for Brighton.

The Seagulls then played out a thrilling match against Liverpool, which required extra time for the winner to be decided. Manuela Vanegas, Haley and Nadine Noordam clawed Brighton back from an initial 2-0 deficit as Reds’ hearts shattered.

Man City scored ten goals across their first two FA Cup games as they breezed past Bournemouth and Sheffield United respectively. A goal from Bunny Shaw was just enough to see the Citizens beat Birmingham City in the quarter-final, setting them up for their five-goal fiesta against Chelsea.

After the holders took a 2-0 lead, City also snatched the win in extra time thanks to a goal from Mary Fowler and a Shaw brace. They are now up against first-time finalists Brighton for their chance to lift the trophy.

When is the Women’s FA Cup Final?

The Adobe Women’s FA Cup final will be held at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 31 May, with kick-off at 3pm BST.
