FLW takes a look at five possible free agents that Ryan Mason could add to his Baggies squad.

West Brom have room for two more first-team players as Ryan Mason prepares to take his side into the meat and bones of the 25/26 Championship season.

The Baggies are among the early pace setters in the second tier, in what is Mason's debut season in charge at The Hawthorns.

Albion have established themselves as perennial top-half/promotion contenders since their 2021 relegation from the Premier League, but have only finished inside the play-offs in one of their four Championship campaigns since dropping out of the top-flight.

However, Mason's men look to be well equipped to give it another good go this term, but may just require a little bit more quality and depth in certain areas if they are to finally end their Premier League exile.

With 23 players registered from a maximum of 25, West Brom have room for two more senior players in their squad if they wish.

As such, Football League World takes a look at five current free agents that Albion could consider signing.

Josh Dasilva

West Brom aren't blessed with strength in depth in the heart of midfield, and with Mason looking to implement a possession-based approach, that's far from ideal.

Jayson Molumby and Alex Mowatt represent two quality and proven Championship performers in central midfield, but behind those two, Albion only have Man United youngster Toby Collyer and the out-of-form Ousmane Diakite respectively to call upon as natural options.

Therefore, adding Josh Dasilva could be a real shrewd piece of business by West Brom.

The 26-year-old last kicked a ball in anger back in January 2024, after suffering a significant knee injury during training that required surgery, before being released by Brentford this summer.

Prior to that, however, the former Arsenal and England youngster was an integral first-team star for the Bees, making 36 Premier League appearances for them in 22/23, whilst also having played an essential role in helping the club win promotion to the top-flight in 20/21.

Once fit and firing again, Dasilva could quickly become a class above at Championship level, and could prove to be a superb signing for West Brom.

Rick Karsdorp

Right-back looks like it could be a real problem position for Albion this season, and one that they may still need to address.

Centre-back by trade George Campbell was deployed there in the 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough, and put in his worst performance in an Albion shirt since signing for them this summer.

Meanwhile, Alfie Gilchrist and youngster Alex Williams are the only other options there, and so Mason may need to act before the January transfer window to prevent a real weak spot in his backline from developing any further.

Rick Karsdorp could be an excellent solution, however.

The 30-year-old has some top pedigree to his name, having played for Roma, Feyenoord, and most recently, a season with Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven.

If he's to have any hope of trying to make the Netherlands' 2026 World Cup squad, he needs to find a new home and start playing regular football immediately, and although he may source himself a move to another top European league, that might not be on the table for him.

Therefore, he'd surely come in and instantly become Albion's starting right-back, and if the team can make a real promotion push this term, playing at that level could be enough to put him back on the radar of Dutch national team boss, Ronald Koeman.

Karsdorp is an attacking-minded full-back, which is perhaps something that Mason is lacking from his current crop of options.

Emmanuel Dennis

Having struggled for goals through the early stages of the season, West Brom may still be looking for avenues that could sharpen their cutting edge up top.

Emmanuel Dennis could be a big help in that regard.

The 27-year-old was released by Nottingham Forest this summer after three years at The City Ground, during which he spent time out on loan with Basaksehir in Turkey, as well as Watford and Blackburn Rovers of the Championship respectively.

A Nigerian international, Dennis has decent goalscoring pedigree from his time in Belgium with Club Brugge, and also helped himself to 10 goals and six assists in 33 Premier League appearances for Watford in 21/22.

Evidently, there's a talented striker in there, who perhaps just needs to find somewhere to put down his roots, and who will hand him the chance to show what he can do at second tier level.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

A player who will need no introduction to English football fans, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is still on the lookout for a club to take a chance on him.

Now 32, the former Liverpool and Arsenal star is available to sign as a free agent following his exit from Turkish giants Besiktas this summer.

He's had his admirers too, with Birmingham City and potentially Southampton - the club he started his career with - both credited with possible interest in acquiring his services.

Wages are also understood to not be an issue, with the versatile attacking midfielder said to be aware of his value and won't price himself out of a move if there's sufficient levels of mutual interest.

He's also said to be very keen on a return to England to reunite with his family, and so with West Brom also looking light for depth across the forward line, Oxlade-Chamberlain's ability to play in any position across the attack could be worth its weight in gold for Mason.

That's not to mention the fact he'd surely be an excellent source of leadership and inspiration to add to the dressing room, given the fact he's got a Premier League, Champions League, League Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, four Community Shield and four FA Cup winners' medals in his collection.

Nathan Redmond

Losing Tom Fellows was always going to strip away a superb source of goals, creativity and quality from West Brom's side.

As such, it's perhaps going to take some amount of time before Albion find a suitable replacement for him, and that's where quality stopgap players can provide their value to a club.

Nathan Redmond would be exactly that for the Baggies.

At 31, he should still have a number of good years left in the tank, and has over 270 Premier League appearances to his name from his time with Norwich City, Southampton and most recently, Burnley respectively.

Redmond recently went on trial with Sheffield United at the end of August, but he doesn't appear to have earned himself a contract with the struggling Blades.

With Isaac Price still carving out his defined role in Mason's team, and with 31-year-old Jed Wallace failing to grasp the vacated starting role on the right flank after Fellows' departure, Albion may be in need of some further fresh blood in that department.

Redmond should be raring to go for a new club too, having made just two Championship appearances culminating in 13 minutes of second tier football for Burnley last season, but in a reminder of the quality he still possesses, was still able to grab himself an assist in that time.

With vasts amount of Premier League and Championship experience under his belt, and with Premier League promotion experience on his CV with Norwich City, Redmond could be a highly shrewd option for West Brom to add to their attacking ranks.
