Aston Villa are monitoring Celta Vigo right-back Oscar Mingueza, who is due to be a free agent at the end of the season.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 26-year-old has been tracked as Villa look for dependable cover at right-back. First-choice Matty Cash signed a new contract earlier this season but options behind him have been an issue during Unai Emery’s reign.

Lamare Bogarde impressed when deputising last month. Andres Garcia, recruited from Levante in January 2025, has endured an injury-hit first full season in English football.

Villa’s summer business will again be shaped largely by whether they qualify for the Champions League. Uefa’s financial fair play rules will still limit them to some extent, regardless of any return to Europe’s elite competition.

After an 18-day break, Villa visit Bologna on Thursday night in the first leg of a Europa League quarter-final. The squad will train at Bodymoor Heath on Wednesday morning before flying to Italy early in the afternoon.

Emery faces making at least two changes from the side that won 2-0 at West Ham in the Premier League, with Jadon Sancho sidelined by a shoulder injury and Ross Barkley not in the Europa League squad.
